Relationship & Couples Therapy in Highland Park, los angeles

real connection that feels human, not like another fight.

You don't have to keep having the same fight.

We believe that having relationship challenges—whether you’re in a monogamous partnership, polyamorous, or navigating CNM—doesn’t mean something is wrong with you or your partner(s).

Connection is genuinely hard!

Most of us were never taught how to stay close and connected when things get tough. We weren’t taught how to fight in ways that feel fair, or how to hold compassion for our partner(s) in the middle of conflict.

We’re here to help you feel more secure, more connected, and on the same team again.

You deserve therapy that feels human.
Warm. Honest. Validating. Always in your relationship’s corner.

We’re an anti-racist, queer and trans-affirming therapy practice in Highland Park, Los Angeles, committed to helping you build a relationship that feels more connected, more secure, and more like your own.

A free 15–20 minute call with our Care Coordinator. No pressure, no commitment.

How we help

Relationship therapy at Kindman & Co. is warm, collaborative, and genuinely human.

We are explicitly CNM and poly-affirming, offering a non-judgmental space for a wide range of relationship structures. We use the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), a research-informed method that focuses on shifting communication patterns by paying attention to what’s actually happening in the moment—the looks, the tone, the body language—so you can leave with real tools to care for each other more effectively.

Sessions often include honesty, curiosity, playfulness, and sometimes cursing, alongside space for the hard stuff. Our goal is for you to leave having had a new kind of experience together, one where you feel more seen, heard, and secure in your relationship.

We’re not here to fix you or your relationship. You’re not broken.
We’re not here to take sides or tell you what to do.

We’re here to help you become the expert on your partner(s).
We’re here to help you understand each other more deeply and respond to each other differently. To move out of the same patterns, feel more connected and secure, and show up for each other in ways that actually land.

If you're ready, we can help you find a therapist who feels like the right fit for your relationship.

What to Expect: A thoughtful Start for Your Relationship

Finding a therapist for your relationship shouldn't add to your stress. We’ve designed our process to ensure that both you and your partner(s) feel advocated for and seen from the very first call.

1. A Free Match Call

Start with a free 15–20 minute call with our Care Coordinator, Clarissa. She’ll take the time to understand your relationship, what’s been feeling hard, and what you’re hoping for, and help connect you with a therapist who fits.

This is a no-pressure conversation to see if our practice feels right for you. If it does, we’ll guide you to the next step. If not, that’s completely okay too.

2. Intentional Pairing

Expertise meets relational fit.
We don’t just look at who has an opening. We thoughtfully pair you with a therapist trained in PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) who can hold space for all parts of you and your partnership.

We take the guesswork out of finding the right fit, so you can spend less time searching and more time focusing on your relationship.

If it doesn’t feel like the right fit after your first session, we’ll support you in finding a better match within our practice, so you don’t have to start your search all over again.

3. Your First Session

Because we’ve done the work of matching, you don’t have to spend your first session trying to explain the basics of your relationship or get the therapist up to speed.

Instead, you can begin where you are—whether that’s feeling disconnected, stuck in patterns, navigating conflict, or wanting to strengthen your connection.

You don’t have to come in on the same page. We’ll help you find a place to start, and move at a pace that feels workable for everyone involved.

What People Are Saying… *

"We felt like we were just going in circles until we started PACT here. It was the first time we felt like someone was actually in our relationship's corner. We finally started to hear and understand each other differently and now we can manage conflict with confidence and security."

— JH & KH

"When I think of authentic, values-driven, relational therapy I think of Kindman & Co. As a colleague, I deeply appreciate their insight and dedication to social justice, as well as how much they truly hold the fullness of what it means to be human with all of their clients."

— AH

"Kindman & Co is one of the best therapy practices on the east side of LA...all of their clinicians are supportive, knowledgeable, and incredibly welcoming. Beyond their clinical work, Kindman & Co is deeply engaged in the community, actively fighting against injustices and helping give people a voice.  I highly recommend Kindman & Co to anyone in the LA or California area looking for therapy, groups, or a values-driven practice that truly cares."

What makes relationship therapy here different

Your relationship makes sense in context.

For many couples and partners, patterns like conflict, distance, shutdown, or reactivity aren’t signs that something is wrong with you. They’re often shaped by stress, attachment patterns, and nervous system responses that happen automatically, especially when things start to feel unsafe or disconnected.

When these patterns are understood in context, it becomes easier to step out of blame and begin responding to each other with more compassion and curiosity.

HOW WE WORK

Rooted in Neurobiology, Focused on Connection
Our work is grounded in the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), a neuroscience-informed model that looks at how your nervous systems interact in real time. We pay attention to what’s happening between you—the tone, the timing, the body language—so you can understand your patterns and shift them together.

Relational, Not Clinical
We believe change happens in connection. Therapy here is collaborative, engaged, and grounded in what’s actually happening between you.

Real Humans, Not Blank Slates
Our therapists show up authentically. You won’t be met with distance or neutrality, but with presence, care, honesty, and a little bit of our own humanity.

Depth, With Room for Lightness
We make space for the hard things, and for humor and levity. Both are part of feeling more connected and more like yourselves again.

You Are the Experts on Your Relationship
We won’t take sides or tell you what to do. Instead, we help you understand each other more clearly and respond in ways that build trust, safety, and connection.

An Explicit Stance
We are an anti-oppressive, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, and anti-racist practice. We work with a wide range of relationship structures and identities, and aim to create a space where all parts of your relationship are respected and understood.

Common Questions About Starting Couple Therapy

Are you located near me?

If you’re looking for a couples therapist near you, our Highland Park (90042) office is a convenient option for clients across Northeast Los Angeles, especially in Eagle Rock, Pasadena, Glassell Park, and surrounding areas.

We also offer telehealth sessions for clients anywhere in California.

What if my partner is hesitant to start relationship therapy?

It’s completely normal for one person to feel more ready than the other. Our relational approach isn't about "picking sides" or fixing one person; it's about looking at the space between you.

We use the Match Call to hear from all of you (or just you to start!) to ensure your relationship therapist is someone you feel seen and supported by.

Do you offer premarital counseling for couples in L.A.?

Yes! Whether you’re preparing for marriage or a long-term commitment, we offer premarital counseling specifically designed for modern couples.

We’ll help you navigate the "big feelings" around shared values, finances, and family dynamics so you can build a solid foundation at your pace.

Can we do couples therapy if we are in a non-monogamous relationship structure?

Absolutely. Inclusivity is one of our core pillars. We are proud to provide affirming care for all relationship structures, including polyamorous, open, ENM, and kinky dynamics. You don’t have to explain your lifestyle to us—we’re here to support your connection exactly as it is.

How soon can we start therapy sessions?

We know that when you're ready to start, you're ready now! Once you complete your Match Call with our Care Coordinator, we can usually move quite quickly—often getting you scheduled for your first session with your relationship therapist within the week.

What if we don't feel like the therapist is the "right fit"?

Finding the right fit matters. It’s part of our right fit commitment to you.

If after your first session it doesn’t feel like the right connection for any reason, just let our Care Coordinator know. We’ll thoughtfully rematch you with another therapist, without judgment. Your first session with them is on us, so you won’t have to start your search all over again.

Your comfort, trust, and sense of safety come first.

Not sure where to start?

Most people begin with a free match call—a short, low-pressure conversation to see how it feels.
