about kindman & co. pricing

Our fees are intentionally structured to reflect the expertise, training, and experience working in Kindman & Co.’s relational therapy approach that each clinician brings to their work.

As a feminist and justice-centered practice, we believe that
caring for our team is inseparable from caring for our clients.

This means ensuring our clinicians have livable wages, access to ongoing training, and caseloads that support presence and sustainability — because high-quality care can’t happen under conditions of burnout.

We increase fees annually to honor our team’s continued growth and maintain a practice grounded in integrity, equity, and real human care.

navigating all the logistics

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

  • Healing doesn’t happen in occasional bursts — it happens in relationship, in rhythm, and in the steady practice of showing up for yourself. Rather than offering therapy in a sporadic way (which can sometimes leave you feeling like you’re just "catching up" instead of moving forward), we prioritize regular, reliable sessions that create momentum and help you build real change over time.

Consistency is an act of care, and in many ways, an act of resistance. In a world that pulls our attention in a million directions, carving out protected time for your emotional well-being is powerful. Consistent weekly sessions allow your therapist to stay attuned to your experiences, notice big feelings as they arise, and support you with real depth instead of just crisis management. It means you have a teammate walking with you, so you don't have to carry the heavy stuff alone between sessions.

To make this possible, our ShowUp Consistent Care model includes a set amount of flexibility for life’s inevitable disruptions. This is designed to give you grace when things come up while still protecting the steadiness needed for the work to actually feel effective. Our Care Coordinator will talk you through the specifics so you know exactly what to expect.

At its core, this is about honoring your growth, not rushing it. It’s designed to help you feel supported, grounded, and connected—not just during the hardest moments, but throughout the ongoing process of becoming who you are. If you're wondering how this rhythm might fit into your actual, messy life, we’re always here to talk it through with you.

  • We know that many people hope to use insurance for therapy, and we understand why. However, Kindman & Co. has made an intentional choice not to be in-network with insurance companies.

Healing shouldn't be a transaction dictated by a corporation. Insurance plans often determine coverage based on “medical necessity,” which requires us to focus on "disorders" and "diagnoses" rather than your actual valid, lived experience. They often restrict the number of sessions you can have and impose rigid guidelines that make more sense for a broken bone than for the nuanced, relational, and trauma-informed work we do here.

Our commitment to Liberation and Authenticity. These limitations don’t align with how we practice. We believe your journey shouldn't be dictated by pathology or arbitrary timelines. By remaining private pay, we protect the authenticity of the therapeutic space—allowing your care to be guided by clinical wisdom and real human connection, not insurance regulations.

Furthermore, as a practice rooted in social justice, we believe that caring for our team is inseparable from caring for our clients. Staying out-of-network allows us to ensure our clinicians have livable wages and sustainable caseloads, preventing the burnout that often happens in insurance-based models. This ensures that when you sit down with your therapist, they are fully present and able to show up for you with their whole heart.

You can dive deeper into how this choice aligns with our social justice values in our blog: Why we choose to remain out-of-network

  • While we are out-of-network with insurance plans, many insurers offer partial reimbursement for our sessions. If you would like to take advantage of your available insurance benefits, we will provide you with a monthly superbill that can be submitted to your insurance company.

Every insurance company asks for documentation to be delivered a little differently and offers varying coverage, so you should contact them directly to verify available benefits before your appointment.

If you do call your insurer to discuss coverage, be prepared to ask the following questions:

    • Do I have mental health or behavioral health out-of-network benefits for outpatient settings?

    • What is my deductible? Has it been met?

    • How many mental health sessions does my plan cover annually?

    • Do you cover telehealth or have any stipulations on it?

    • How do I obtain reimbursement for an out-of-network mental health provider?

    • What will the coverage amount be per session?

    • Is approval required by my primary care physician?

    • (if applicable) Will sessions with a registered associate therapist (AMFT, ACSW, APCC) or graduate student intern be covered?

Note: While most of our clients have no problem receiving reimbursement from their insurance plan, we cannot guarantee that your plan will cover sessions with our team.

If you need help with insurance, please email our team at [email protected]. We’re here to help.

  • We accept payment at the time of service. To make this as simple as possible, we take all major credit cards as well as payments through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).

A small way to support our community:
If you’re able, we encourage you to pay via ACH/bank transfer. The money we save on credit card processing fees goes directly toward supporting our reduced-fee services for lower-income individuals and families in our community. It’s a simple way to help us keep care accessible for everyone.

We also accept cash or check for in-person sessions if that feels better for you.
