about kindman & co. pricing

Our fees are intentionally structured to reflect the expertise, training, and experience working in Kindman & Co.’s relational therapy approach that each clinician brings to their work.

As a feminist and justice-centered practice, we believe that
caring for our team is inseparable from caring for our clients.

This means ensuring our clinicians have livable wages, access to ongoing training, and caseloads that support presence and sustainability — because high-quality care can’t happen under conditions of burnout. We increase fees annually to honor our team’s continued growth and maintain a practice grounded in integrity, equity, and real human care.

**Twenty percent of our appointments are reserved for clients who qualify for income-based reduced fees. These spots are limited, so we may not always have openings; our Care Coordinator can let you know what’s available or add you to our waitlist.

We also know that even our reduced fees may still be out of reach for many people. If that’s the case, we encourage you to explore our therapy groups, which are designed to offer a more financially accessible path to care while still providing meaningful support and connection.

Your access to care matters deeply to us, and we’re committed to helping you find a place where you can receive the support you deserve.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

  • Healing doesn’t happen in occasional bursts — it happens in relationship, in rhythm, and in the steady practice of showing up for yourself. Our ShowUp Consistent Care model is built around that truth. Rather than offering therapy in a sporadic or “as-needed” way (which often leaves clients feeling stuck or starting over), we prioritize regular, reliable sessions that create momentum and help you build real change over time.

Consistency is an act of care — and in many ways, an act of resistance. In a world that constantly pulls our attention in a million directions, carving out protected time for your emotional well-being is powerful. Consistent weekly sessions allow your therapist to stay attuned to your experiences, notice shifts more quickly, and support you with depth instead of just crisis management. It also means you’re not doing all the work alone between sessions; you have a teammate walking with you.

To make this possible, the model includes a set number of cancellations each year. This gives clients flexibility for life’s inevitable disruptions while still maintaining the steadiness needed for meaningful therapeutic work. Your therapist will review the specifics with you so you know exactly what to expect.

This structure helps ensure that everyone in the room has the space and pacing needed to feel heard and make meaningful progress together.

At its core, ShowUp Consistent Care is about honoring your growth, not rushing it. It’s designed to help you feel supported, grounded, and connected — not just during the hardest moments, but throughout the ongoing process of becoming who you want to be. If you have questions about how this model works or how it might fit your life, we’re always here to talk it through with you.

  • We know many people hope to use insurance for therapy. Kindman & Co. is not in-network with any insurance companies and does not bill through insurance.

While we’ve made an intentional choice not to be in-network with insurance companies, we regularly help clients use their out-of-network benefits through superbills.

Insurance plans often determine coverage based on “medical necessity,” restrict the number of sessions, and require guidelines that make more sense for physical health than for relational, trauma-informed, and collaborative therapeutic work. These limitations don’t align with how we practice. Your counseling journey here isn’t dictated by timelines, diagnoses, or pathology.

Our decision to remain out-of-network is intentional and rooted in our values. We care deeply about our clients, our team, and our colleagues in healthcare—and we believe therapy flourishes when it’s guided by clinical wisdom and connection, not insurance regulations. You can learn more about why we’ve chosen this path in our blog about remaining out-of-network & how this aligns with our social justice values.

  • While we are out-of-network with insurance plans, many insurers offer partial reimbursement for our sessions. If you would like to take advantage of your available insurance benefits, we will provide you with a monthly superbill that can be submitted to your insurance company.

Every insurance company asks for documentation to be delivered a little differently and offers varying coverage, so you should contact them directly to verify available benefits before your appointment.

If you do call your insurer to discuss coverage, be prepared to ask the following questions:

    • Do I have mental health or behavioral health out-of-network benefits for outpatient settings?

    • What is my deductible? Has it been met?

    • How many mental health sessions does my plan cover annually?

    • Do you cover telehealth or have any stipulations on it?

    • How do I obtain reimbursement for an out-of-network mental health provider?

    • What will the coverage amount be per session?

    • Is approval required by my primary care physician?

    • (if applicable) Will sessions with a registered associate therapist (AMFT, ACSW, APCC) or graduate student intern be covered?

Note: While most of our clients have no problem receiving reimbursement from their insurance plan, we cannot guarantee that your plan will cover sessions with our team.

If you need help with insurance, please email our team at hello@kindman.co. We’re here to help.

  • We accept payment at the time of service. Whenever possible, we encourage clients to pay via ACH/bank transfer, as the money we save on credit card fees helps support our reduced-fee services for lower-income individuals and families in our community.

We also accept cash, credit cards, and payments through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
