Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist #96984

L.A. therapist specializing in couples therapy and modern masculinity

Paul Kindman, LMFT (no. 96984) – Co-founder of Kindman & Co. and specialist in PACT couples therapy, masculinity deconstruction, and relational psychotherapy in Highland Park, Los Angeles.

hello,

i am in awe of the resilience of human beings.

I help individuals & couples go from feeling defective, insecure and disconnected, to capable, confident and nourished by their relationships.

About paul (he/him)

co-founder of Kindman & Co.

I co-founded Kindman & Co. to help spread the message: there is nothing wrong with you.

I reject the idea that we as individuals are the sole cause of our distress. More often, distress is your system’s way of saying that something in your environment isn’t supporting you. It’s an alarm—a signal pointing toward the systems and contexts that may be failing your humanity. And humaning is hard!

We live, we stumble, we hurt, and we heal.

My purpose as a therapist is to help you make sense of what’s happening inside and around you, and to find the resilience and self-understanding we all need to navigate the messiness of being social and emotional creatures.

I’m especially interested in unpacking the stories we’ve been told about masculinity—stories that often pressure men to hide their emotions, compete instead of connect, or confuse strength with silence. These narratives hurt everyone. I love helping male-identified clients and couples to explore what it means to step into fuller, freer versions of masculinity that are relational, feminist, and grounded in authenticity and empathy. Together, we’ll challenge toxic patterns and traditional gender norms to create new ways of being that make space for vulnerability, accountability, and genuine connection. I believe men can be powerful allies in building a world that values care and equity, and I’m passionate about helping you develop the emotional fluency and relational courage to do just that.

As an immigrant myself, I am also deeply committed to supporting individuals and partners navigating the complexities of immigration, acculturation, and identity. These experiences often bring profound questions of belonging, loss, and adaptation: How do I belong? How do I hold onto my culture? Who am I becoming in this new environment? This work often means honoring loss while also celebrating resilience. I feel deeply privileged to walk alongside you as you navigate these complex transitions and discover what belonging can mean for you.

I also love supporting fellow therapists and helping professionals who are building their careers, trying to to make more room for themselves, and wanting to bring social awareness more deeply into their work.

Before co-founding Kindman & Co., I worked across a range of community agencies: providing harm-reduction-based substance use counseling, facilitating mentoring relationships for under-resourced youth, and working closely with marginalized and oppressed communities at The Relational Center, where I also supervised clinical trainees and associate therapists. These experiences have deepened my commitment to supporting BIPOC and queer/LGBTQ+ clients, who too often bear the weight of systems that were never built to hold or celebrate them.

My approach centers affirmation and curiosity—creating space for you to explore identity, heal from marginalization, and experience the freedom of being fully seen and accepted. Through this work, I learned firsthand the transformative power of community, curiosity, and collective care.

These opportunities shaped my passion for providing relational therapy from a social justice lens and reinforced my belief that therapy can be both healing and liberating. It’s not just about coping, it’s about reconnecting to who you really are and expanding what feels possible.

In our work together, we’ll unpack the cultural and gendered stories (often rooted in heteropatriarchy) that keep you feeling small, release shame so you can inhabit yourself more fully, and build the skills for empathy, vulnerability, and sustainable connection.

Let’s help you to cultivate lasting relationships where you get to be your most authentic & grounded self.

Couples Therapy in Highland Park, los angeles

Just as my individual work is rooted in helping people connect more deeply with themselves and others, my work with couples and partners centers on building relationships that are grounded in empathy, trust, and mutual growth.

As a PACT Level Two Therapist, I love working with couples to deepen intimacy and strengthen their sense of connection. I often work with partners in multicultural relationships, who are navigating the unique challenges (and strengths) of honoring multiple belief systems, identities, and traditions within their relationship and families.

As an immigrant myself, I know the complexities of moving from a collectivist culture into a society that often prioritizes individuality over community—and how these differences can shape the ways we love, communicate, and build partnership.

Together, we’ll help you express your needs clearly, make agreements that truly support your partnership and families, and nurture the deep, secure connection that helps relationships thrive.

In our work, we’ll walk alongside one another with curiosity and care. With warmth, empathy, and humor, we’ll create the safety needed for authenticity and growth. We’ll invite vulnerability to inspire movement and build trust and understanding.

And yes, we’ll celebrate the joys and share laughs together, because humor offers great perspective, lightness, and access your most resilient, human self.
