In-Person L.A. group therapy: Redefining Masculinity

A therapy group for men and masc folks ready to trade silence and shutdown for connection, clarity, & emotional freedom.

You’ve done what you were told makes you “a man.”

You’ve pushed through. You’ve held it all in. You’ve been the strong one.

But if you’re here, maybe that version of masculinity feels more like a cage and you’re ready to find something new.

This group is a space to be free from the confines of traditional masculinity.

Toxic masculinity teaches disconnection.
From a young age, many men and masc-identified people are taught to stuff down their feelings, keep things light, and never show “weakness.” Anger becomes the only acceptable emotion. Tenderness is seen as a liability. Vulnerability? Off-limits. Over time, this can make it hard to even know what you're feeling, let alone express it to someone else.

If you're tired of always having to keep it together…
If you find yourself shutting down or checking out when things get hard…
If you feel like no one really knows you—or maybe you don’t know yourself anymore—
You're not alone. And you’re not broken.

These aren’t personal failings. They’re the consequences of a culture that disconnects men from their emotional lives and from each other. But healing is possible—and it doesn’t require you to become someone else. It just asks you to get honest. To get curious. To show up.

In this group, we don’t do emotional performance. We practice emotional presence. That means learning to recognize what you're feeling, naming it, and letting yourself be seen in it—all in the company of others doing the same. It’s not always comfortable, but it IS powerful.

There’s nothing inherently “unmasculine” about softness, self-awareness, or seeking connection. In fact, it might be the most courageous thing you do.

Redefining Masculinity starts on October 4th, 2025. If you’re interested in joining this group, please book your discovery session now to reserve your spot!

You don’t have to fix it first.

Bring the real stuff—whatever’s been bottled up. There’s room for it (and all of you) here.

Liam DeGeorgio, AMFT smiling in white chair at Kindman & Co. Therapy

Hello,

I’m Liam. I look forward to helping you unpack masculinity & embrace your deeply feeling self!

The deets

This ongoing, process-oriented therapy group begins October 4, 2025 and meets Saturdays, 10–11:30 AM (90 minutes).

The group is facilitated by Liam DeGeorgio, AMFT. Liam is a male therapist who proudly identifies as “deeply sensitive” and is passionate about working with men and masc-presenting folks to challenge their inherited narratives around masculinity and to embrace their sensitivity and emotional depth.

This group meets in-person in our office in Highland Park, Los Angeles. We anticipate the group will have 6–10 members so that it is small enough for depth, and big enough for community.

Group fees

The Redefining Masculinity therapy group is a regular investment of $275 per month, which covers all weekly sessions and ensures that your spot is reserved in the group. There is also a one-time, fifty-minute, individual intake session which costs $160 to help Liam learn how to support you better and ensure the group will be the right fit for you.

A reduced-fee regular group rate of $150 per month is available with documented financial need. If you qualify for the reduced fee monthly rate, the one-time, fifty-minute intake session fee is $80.

There are a limited number of reduced fee spots available, so book your info session now!

who we welcome

This group is open to adult men and masc-identified folks who are ready to explore a more expansive version of masculinity. We especially welcome BIPOC, queer, trans, and nonbinary-masc community members who have felt sidelined or silenced by traditional ideas of manhood. If you've ever been told to “man up” when what you really needed was space to feel—this group is for you.

Group F.A.Q.

  • No. It’s a therapy group focused on insight, skills, and community. If you need a court-approved program, we’ll do our best to share appropriate referrals.

  • Perfectly fine! We’ll build emotional vocabulary and regulation skills at a humane, collaborative pace.

  • We ask therapy group members to commit to keeping what’s shared in group private.

Similar to individual therapy, our therapist facilitators are legally required to protect your confidentiality though some exceptions apply (i.e. clinical supervision, imminent risk of harm, abuse/neglect of a minor/dependent elder).

  • No—Many group therapy members are; others aren’t. One of the benefits of group therapy is that it tends to be a more affordable option than one-on-one therapy, and our hope is that this means you have more diverse options for accessing therapy. Our care coordinators can help you decide what therapy combo best supports your goals.

  • This is an anti-oppressive, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming space. Facilitators address harm and rupture directly and repair is guided with care and accountability.

  • We get it, life happens! And consistency keeps the group feeling secure and effective, which is why we reserve a spot just for you.

Our group fees are charged on a monthly basis to ensure your spot is held, even when you are not able to attend.

While you are not required to attend all meetings of the group, we ask that group members do their best to be in sessions as often as possible and if there are consistent attendance concerns, the facilitator will discuss this with you.

  • Usually yes; for groups that are described as “ongoing,” we admit on a rolling basis when there’s space available. If the group is in a closing arc, we’ll put you on the waitlist.

  • We know work, family, and life can make it hard to step away. For now, this group meets in person at our cozy Highland Park office because shared space deepens connection and safety. If a virtual option would make the group more accessible for you, mention it in your discovery call—we’re open to exploring it.

  • All therapists at Kindman & Co. are LGBTQIA2S+ affirming and anti-racist. We hold a strong disability justice lens and work to reduce ableism in language and practice. If you need specific accommodations (seating, sensory, pacing, masking preferences), email us at hello@kindman.co—we’ll collaborate.

What can i expect from group therapy?

What happens in group?

You’ll bring what’s real right now (including the stuff that’s been stuck in your throat). Together we’ll slow it down, get reflective feedback, and practice being more honest—with yourself first, then with others. We’ll build emotional vocabulary, name unmet needs, and try on new language for asks, limits, apologies, and repair. The vibe is skills + humanity: fewer scripts, more choice.

We’ll also look at how masculinity shows up in your body, relationships, work, and coping—so “strong” can include soft, scared, silly, and sincere. Expect humor, tenderness, reality checks, and plenty of normalization. No posturing required; curiosity is the only flex.

What is Group Therapy?

Did you know that research shows that group therapy can be equally as effective as individual therapy?

Group therapy is when a small number of people meet together under the guidance of a therapist to help one another. It provides a place where you come together with others to share problems or concerns, to better understand your own situation, and to learn from each other. Group therapy can help you improve your interpersonal relationships. It addresses feelings of isolation, aloneness, depression and/or anxiety, and helps you to make significant changes to improve the quality of your life.  The insights gained in weekly group therapy can support you to have more satisfying relationships, be more comfortable with yourself, with your feelings, with others, and in the other groups in which you participate every day.

Who Can Benefit from Group Therapy?

Like individual therapy, group therapy can benefit almost anyone. Members have the opportunity to discover how they think, why they react the way they do, and understand how they are perceived by others in the group. Members talk about what goes on in their lives outside the group, but also highlight what happens between members in the present moment, providing valuable feedback and learning by witnessing and resonating with each other. Our hope is that group members find healing and an increased ability to make conscious choices that impact how they feel in the moment. This supports members to learn about themselves and take interpersonal risks in the service of living their lives more authentically, more honestly, and more fully emotionally engaged.
